So, for you guys, we’ve put together this cheat sheet that is very easy to follow and we’ve simplified your skincare routine to just 5-6 steps and it can be modified, and products can be added depending upon your individual skincare needs.

But before we get into each step in detail we need to lay the foundation for proper skincare.

The Basics before Starting a Skincare Routine

When building a house it’s important to set up a proper foundation and lay the groundwork before worrying about the roof. Otherwise, you’re on weak ground and will soon be dissatisfied in your new home. The same is with your skincare. If you don’t have a proper foundation you’re going to make everything harder for yourself.

Here are four things you need to know before starting your Skincare routine:

  1. Get Organized – To begin with, make a list of skincare problems that you actually have, for example you have acne or pigmentation or dark spots or just plain dry skin. It’s very important to understand your skin and how it reacts with the product. For instance, look for products with Vitamin C in it, which is a perfect ingredient that helps to remove spots, dullness and any uneven skin tone.
  2. Know Your Skin Type – There are four types of skin: oily, dry, normal and combination. Knowing your skin type is important to understand and will help you put together a routine that suits your skin. How do you determine that? Very simple, just notice how your skin feels when you wake up. For example, if you have oily skin, it is recommended to stick to light hydrating products like Serums. For Acne Prone skin, Salicylic Acid products are recommended to use. For dry skin concerns, Hyaluronic Acid is recommended.
  3. Add New Products Into Your Routine – While putting together a routine you will probably experiment with a few different products before settling onto one as you will discover how your skin reacts to different ingredients. The important thing you can do is to only introduce ONE new product at a time. That means if you decide you need a new moisturizer you won’t also start using a new cleanser without giving the moisturizer a test run for a couple weeks. For trial basis, Two weeks is enough time to test whether a skincare product plays nicely with your skin.
  4. Stay Positive & Healthy – Proper nutrition and a healthy diet is the first base of every great skincare routine! So, feed your body the nutrients and vitamins it needs to build that perfect skin. There are some cases you’ll find that by just changing your diet your skin problems either improve or go away altogether.

Putting Together an Effective Skincare Routine

So, now we have set the foundation we’re going to discuss the individual steps of a basic skincare routine. Remember that you’ll have to perform this routine twice a day in the AM and PM (morning and night).

The most essential part of any skin care routine is cleansing. A cleanser removes the dirt, oil, and bacteria that you come in contact with during the day or at night while you sleep. It’s all on you, but by default, one should be cleansing its skin both a.m. and p.m. times.

In the morning, you can just rinse your face with the cold water or lukewarm water. Try to include cleansing as a most important step for your P.M. Skincare. Always take care of what cleanser you are using. Dermatologist say, too much cleansing, even with gentle oil cleanser can strip away lipids and harm skin barrier.
